# How work is organized

You sign in as yourself. An Organization holds Projects. A Project holds Documents. Who can open it, who else is on the sheet, and the same Project on a Mac.

One-person shop or a large GC: same nouns. You sign in as yourself. Organization holds Projects. A Project holds Documents. Who can open a Project lives on that Project, not on every PDF.

You don't log into the company. You sign in as yourself, then you belong to an [Organization](/guides/organizations). Signup mints **My Organization** with no Project. Create a [Project](/guides/projects), then upload. That is the first cabinet. You can ignore Members, Collaborators, and Teams until a second estimator, a GC, or a guest shows up. If a second person needs the same set, start with [Working together](/guides/working-together-collaboration). No install to open the desk: [Browser desk](/guides/browser-desk-app). Same Project on a Mac is [cloud sync](/guides/project-cloud-sync). Two people measuring at once is [realtime multiplayer collaboration](/guides/realtime-project-collaboration). If a PM should View without a measuring seat, see [who can open a Project](/guides/project-access). Archived work sits in [Trash](/guides/delete-and-restore-archived) for 30 days. Restore the Project and the drawings come back with it. The measuring loop is still [calibrate, measure, CSV](/how-it-works). The desk reads the scale on the sheet, including viewports and letters drawn as lines: [scale detection](/guides/scale-detection). Craft notes (Bluebeam to Excel, stairs and rails, scale) live under [Resources](/resources).

## You sign in as yourself

Everyone keeps their own login. Invite by email. They click the link and join. You cannot create their account for them. One login can sit in more than one Organization. Recents lists every Project this identity can open. There is no company switcher. [Organization members](/guides/organization-members) and [Project collaborators](/guides/project-collaborators) are the invite walks.

## Same nouns as you grow

One estimator and a large GC are not two products. You turn the same knobs further.

| When | What you actually use |
| --- | --- |
| One person | Recents, one [Project](/guides/projects), Add a [Document](/guides/project-documents). [Browser](/guides/browser-desk-app) or the [Mac/Windows app](/download). Ignore Members, Collaborators, and Teams. |
| Second person in the shop | Invite them as an org [member](/guides/organization-members). Keep All members can edit. Both measure on the same [live Project](/guides/working-together-collaboration). |
| Outside estimator or a GC's PM | Project invite: a [guest](/guides/project-collaborators), View or Edit. Don't put them in the company directory. |
| You measure on their set | They Share you as a guest. Keep your own Organization for bids you own. [Two setups](/guides/working-together-collaboration). |
| Departments, many bids | Restricted Projects, [Teams](/guides/organization-teams), maybe a second Organization for a second company. |

If you came from Revu: the open PDF is still a [Document](/guides/project-documents). The drawings live in a [Project](/guides/projects). There is no Studio as a second app, and no Session to Finish. Markup names on the desk stay Revu. Who can open what is this cluster: one app, in the [browser](/guides/browser-desk-app) or a [Mac/Windows install](/download), even offline after you open the sheet. Two people at once is [Working together](/guides/working-together-collaboration).

## The guides

- [What is an Organization?](/guides/organizations.md): An Organization is the company you join, not a login. People, Teams, and who inherits Project access. One-person shops stay simple. A GC can lock bids.
- [What is a Project?](/guides/projects.md): A Project holds the PDFs, the people, and the live takeoff desk. Anyone with permission works on the same drawings, not a file emailed around.
- [What is a Document?](/guides/project-documents.md): A Document is one plan PDF. Markups live on that file, on the desk. Who can open it follows the Project. You don’t permission every sheet by hand.
- [The desk finds the page scale](/guides/scale-detection.md): The desk reads the scale when you open a plan PDF: AutoCAD viewports, scale text, and letters drawn as lines. Confirm one known dimension, then measure.
- [Delete and restore archived work](/guides/delete-and-restore-archived.md): Delete a Document, Project, or Organization and it leaves the live lists for everyone. Trash holds it 30 days. Restore brings the same markups back.
- [Working together](/guides/working-together-collaboration.md): One live Project for the team. Measure together. Same desk in the browser or on Mac and Windows. Share View or Edit. No Session to start or Finish.
- [Browser desk](/guides/browser-desk-app.md): Takeoff in the browser. Share a Project; they sign in and open without installing. Mac and Windows apps are the same desk if you prefer a native window.
- [How does cloud sync work?](/guides/project-cloud-sync.md): Same Project in the browser or a Mac or Windows app. Open a Document once; it stays on that device (even offline) and syncs as you edit. Share View or Edit.
- [How do teams collaborate?](/guides/realtime-project-collaboration.md): Anyone with permission joins the same Project at once. Edit measures together. No Session to start or Finish. Share View or Edit; Follow stays on the sheet.
- [Who belongs to the Organization](/guides/organization-members.md): Invite by email. They sign in as themselves. Organization Members is the company directory: admin or member. Guests belong on a Project, not in payroll.
- [Who can open this bid](/guides/project-collaborators.md): Project Collaborators is who can open this bid. Invite by email. Guests see that Project, not the org. Share is named people, not a public link.
- [Teams you grant on a Project](/guides/organization-teams.md): A Team is a named list of people already in the Organization. Grant it on a Project once. Guests cannot sit on a Team. Estimating, Shop, that GC’s PMs.
- [Who can open a Project](/guides/project-access.md): View, Comment, Edit, or Full control. Give the least role that fits. Org members inherit a floor; extra grants only go up. Access is the Project, not each PDF.
